Drilling Supervisor
Job Purpose
The Drilling Supervisor is responsible for supervising offshore drilling and completion operations, ensuring execution is conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The role involves overseeing daily rig activities, coordinating with contractors and service providers, enforcing safety and operational procedures, and addressing challenges to optimize well performance and minimize downtime.
Key Accountabilities
Operational Supervision
• Direct and supervise drilling and completion activities to ensure adherence to the approved drilling program and best industry practices.
• Oversee all rig operations, including wellbore construction, drilling fluid management, casing, cementing, and well control.
• Ensure timely and effective execution of drilling programs while maintaining operational efficiency.
• Work closely with subsurface, engineering, and operations teams to ensure well objectives are met.
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce SSHE (Safety, Security, Health & Environment) policies, ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations.
• Conduct pre-tour safety meetings, safety drills, and audits to reinforce a strong safety culture.
• Ensure all personnel follow company and regulatory safety standards and report any hazards or safety concerns immediately.
• Monitor and implement emergency response procedures when required.
Contractor & Service Provider Coordination
• Supervise drilling contractors, service providers, and third-party vendors, ensuring performance aligns with contractual obligations and operational goals.
• Work closely with the rig crew and service companies to ensure seamless coordination during drilling and completion activities.
• Identify and address contractor performance issues and escalate concerns as needed.
Performance Optimization & Troubleshooting
• Identify and resolve operational issues that could lead to downtime or non-productive time (NPT).
• Provide technical guidance on well control, pressure management, and wellbore stability.
• Assist in analyzing drilling performance metrics and implementing lessons learned to improve future operations.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure corrective actions are taken when operational deviations occur.
Reporting & Documentation
• Maintain accurate daily drilling reports (DDR), cost tracking, and performance logs.
• Document operational activities, incidents, and deviations from the drilling program.
• Provide daily updates and recommendations to onshore drilling teams and management.
Professional Knowledge & Experiences
Education & Certification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Valid Well Control Certification (IWCF / IADC - Supervisor Level).
• BOSIET / HUET and other offshore survival and safety training as required.
Experience
• Minimum 10 years of experience in drilling & completion operations, with at least 3 years as a Drilling Supervisor.
• Offshore experience with jack-up, semi-submersible, or deepwater rigs.
• Strong background in well control, drilling fluids, casing, cementing, and rig equipment management.
• Experience in handling depleted formations, HPHT (High-Pressure High-Temperature) wells, and extended-reach drilling.
• Proven ability to lead and manage offshore teams in high-risk environments.
Skills & Competencies
• Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot drilling challenges and implement real-time solutions.
• Excellent knowledge of drilling fluids, casing design, cementing operations, and well integrity.
• Proficiency in drilling engineering software and real-time data monitoring.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities, working effectively with cross-functional teams.
