Job Purpose
Geophysicist (GSC/S) is responsible for the execution of technical workflows, QA/QC, supervision of junior staff and project management.
Key Accountabilities
- Carrying out seismic data processing project work, identifying and solving moderate geophysical problems independently, and working with Project Leader for complex geophysical problems.
- Developing and optimizing some processing steps in projects, managing, preparing and ensuring quality control of geosciences data to support team projects.
- Performing time processing and depth imaging of 2D and 3D land and marine seismic data (including generation of processing flows, parameter testing, velocity interpretation and model building).
- Preparing, running, and managing production migration, tomography and other processing workflows on the company computer system and resolving any issues that may arise during production run.
- Ensuring quality of seismic products deliver to clients is good quality and preparing project reports and presentations, and participating in project meetings
- Communicating with asset team and geophysicist on project matters, supervising other processing/depth imaging staff to complete their project work and assisting the team leader to manage team projects
- Reporting to Project Leader or above and perform other related tasks as assigned by the team leader/project leader
- Supervising and QC all out-house seismic processing projects
- Guiding junior processing geophysicists, evaluate new algorithmic updates or software modules, and streamline production workflows.
Professional Knowledge & Experiences
Educational Background
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geophysics, or related geoscience discipline.
Professional Experience
- Experience in seismic imaging with good general geological knowledge and exploration & development geophysics in Oil & Gas or related industry.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience directly running seismic processing projects in deep/ shallow marine, land, or OBN.
Technical Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of acoustic and elastic wave theory, ray tracing, wave equation propagation, and seismic anisotropy (VTI/TTI).
- Practical knowledge of pre-processing, migration algorithms such as Kirchhoff, Reverse Time Migration (RTM), and/or Least-Squares migration techniques.
- Understanding in high-density velocity analysis, grid tomography, anisotropic parameter estimation, and Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) workflows.
- Awareness in AVO/QI Compliant Processing: Thorough comprehension of amplitude-preserving flows, phase preservation, spatial sampling/regularization, and wavelet processing.
